The department also treats thousands of non-elite athletes per year; more than 30 neurosurgeons perform more than 11,000 procedures annually, making UPMC’s flagship campus one of the largest academic neurological providers in America. U.S. News & World Report ranked UPMC No. 20 in the nation for neurology and neurosurgery for 2017-18, and National Institutes of Health ranks the hospital’s neurosurgery department among the highest in the nation.
