University of Virginia Medical Center (Charlottesville). From 2013 to 2015, University of Virginia Medical Center surgeons performed 3,100 total joint replacements with a 0.9 percent infection rate. Since then, the hospital’s orthopedic program has continued to grow, with UVA Orthopaedics surgeons performing 942 hip and knee replacements in fiscal year 2017. The University of Virginia Medical Center has the only orthopedic program in the state to achieve the International Geriatric Fracture Society CORE Certification at the Premier Level. U.S. News & World Report ranked University of Virginia Medical Center among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for orthopedics in 2017-18.
