The physicians of Harlem Hospital in New York City agreed to a new contract on Thursday, allowing the hospital to avoid the 150-physician strike, according to a New York Times report.
The hospital recently loosened its affiliation with Columbia University, resulting in the loss of free Columbia tuition for physician’s children and large subsidies for their children attending other colleges.
The new contract, which is under the private corporation Physician Affiliate Group of New York, prevents the transfer of neurosurgery and rehabilitation department sot other hospitals, ensures that no departments or divisions will be cut, calls for the filling of physician vacancies and reduces physician layoffs from 20 to six.
