State College, Pa.-based Mount Nittany Health announced its Mount Nittany Medical Center is planning expansion and renovation projects that will total approximately $36 million in addition to equipment costs.

The projects include expanding the surgical services unit by 60,000 square feet, adding five new operating rooms, expanding the post-surgical care area and adding pre-surgery care areas, storage and a central sterile supply space. The hospital will also expand its pain management services and relocate them to a new facility, which will also offer walk-in laboratory and radiology services.

The hospital has already added a three-story patient tower and is currently constructing a new emergency department, which is expected to be completed in the spring of 2013. The hospital's new Lance and Ellen Shaner Cancer Pavilion and Sieg Neuroscience Center are scheduled to open this fall.
