Illinois Regulators Hear More Arguments Over Proposed Hospital in Crystal Lake

The battle is still waging over Janesville, Wis.-based Mercy Health System and Crystal Lake-based Centegra Health System's separate plans to build a hospital, according to a Courier News report.

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board heard arguments over Mercy's second scaled-back plan for a much smaller $115 million, 70-bed hospital in Crystal Lake. Mercy first proposed a 128-bed, $200 million hospital, an idea that was denied by the review board in June.

Concurrently, Centegra has been seeking to build a 128-bed, $233 million hospital in Huntley. Although that plan was also denied by the review board in June, Centegra officials submitted new evidence to back up the need for a new hospital. The review board's most recent public hearing only included arguments over Mercy's plan since Centegra's proposal did not change, according to the report.

The review board said it would announce its final decisions over both plans after a board meeting in December.
