How a Secure Communication Platform Can Prevent Patient Falls

Patient falls make up approximately 2 percent of hospital adverse events. Being able to call a patient's room directly can avoid this preventable patient harm, according to a new brief from Amcom Software.

The rooms of patients at high risk for falls are often armed with alarms that go off if the patient attempts to get out of bed. However, even with the alarm going off, a patient could still be injured before a member of the hospital's nursing staff can reach the room on foot.

Having a secure communication platform that both sends the alert directly to nurses' mobile devices and allows the nurse to call the patient's room en route and ask the patient to remain in bed until the nurse arrives, helping to prevent a fall.
