Former CBO Director Launches Healthcare Think Tank

Douglas Holtz-Eakin, PhD, former director of the Congressional Budget Office, has launched a nonpartisan think tank: The Center for Health and Economy.

Dr. Holtz-Eakin is also president of the "center-right policy institute" American Action Forum. His new think tank, nicknamed the H&E, is also led by Princeton Professor Uwe Reinhardt, PhD, and University of Minnesota Professor Stephen Parente, PhD.

"H&E will be a resource for healthcare data and will issue projections, analyses, and 'scores' of how various health care proposals would affect the U.S.," according to a news release.

The center will use two microsimulation models to provide insight into how current law or proposed changes affect the number of insured Americans, the price of health insurance, the efficiency and accessibility of health care and the federal budget. One, a "Medicare Model," will analyze the effects of the healthcare law on those 65 or older, and an "Under 65" model will analyze the rest of the population.
