Allegations of secret patient waiting lists and falsified appointment records have been made against 26 VA hospitals across the nation. In response to the allegations, Richard J. Griffin, acting inspector general of the VA, said inadequate staffing at many of the facilities’ has made them unable to provide care to patients in a reasonable time.

While the VA attempts to address the staffing issues, the VA will increase non-VA care availability to its patients. The VA is set to announce the specifics of the private care options available to veterans in the next few days, according to the Los Angeles Times
