A former cardiologist from St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Md., is facing 22 more lawsuits filed by patients who claim Mark Midei, MD, misled them to undergo stent implants that may have been unnecessary, according to a Baltimore Business Journal report.
Dr. Midei was formerly chief of cardiology at St. Joseph’s. In 2010, the hospital notified more than 500 patients that they may have received unnecessary stents from 2007-2009. The most recent batch of lawsuits has been filed by patients who underwent surgery in 2006 and 2007, according to the report.
Dr. Midei has already lost his medical license due to the allegations.
