In the lawsuit, the plaintiffs argued the IPAB, which was created under the PPACA to cut Medicare spending, is unconstitutional. An appeals court previously dismissed the case in August 2014.
In December 2014, 25 Republican lawmakers, led by Sen. Tom Coburn, MD (R-Okla.) and Rep. Phil Roe, MD (R-Tenn.), urged the Supreme Court to reconsider the case.
The plaintiffs, who were represented by Phoenix-based conservative Goldwater Institute, also challenged the PPACA’s individual mandate, which was also rejected by the high court.
