San Francisco physician to pay more than $1M to settle False Claims charges

A San Francisco physician has agreed to pay more than $1 million to resolve allegations that he charged Medicare for non-FDA-approved drugs and associated services.

The U.S. Justice Department charged rheumatology specialist Roger Wang, MD, with knowingly violating the False Claims Act by submitting thousands of false claims for reimbursement for versions of drugs that were packaged and labeled for foreign markets and were not approved for distribution in the U.S., according to a May 24 department news release.

Dr. Wang submitted the claims to Medicare between June 30, 2015, and Dec. 1, 2019, according to the news release.
