Police arrested two individuals Oct. 7 under suspicion of drug trafficking, and arrested six more on Oct. 12. The names of the individuals have been withheld by police and hospital officials citing the ongoing investigation, according to the article.
A spokesman for the Department of State Hospitals said the two former employees had been fired this past summer.
Investigators had been probing the operation since April. Police are still unclear about how the individuals smuggled the drugs in and out of the secure facility.
Five of the individuals are currently being held in Fresno County Jail, while three others have been cited or released on bond. Police plan to forward the case to the district attorney’s office, according to the article.
