The new bill provides safety recommendations for healthcare personnel who prescribe opioids, including prescribing the lowest dosage of a drug first and only using “opioid therapy if benefits outweigh the risks,” the report notes.
The bill does not include certain provisions that were controversial. These provisions include making improper opioid prescribing a criminal act and only allowing opioids to be prescribed for seven days at a time.
