Montana Scraps Plans for Medicaid Managed Care

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer’s office has scrapped plans to establish a Medicaid managed-care demonstration project in six counties, according to Billings Gazette report.

According to an email to employees sent by Department of Public Health and Human Services Director Anna Whiting Sorrell, the project is not feasible at this time. Additionally, she stated, “the input during the 62nd legislative session did not seem interested in exploring these efficiencies.”

Officials from the Schweitzer administration believed the program could cut Medicaid costs by 10 percent, but opponents of the demonstration worried managed care could hurt healthcare providers finances among other issues.
