The bill would also allow employers to refuse covering services for employees that “violated the payor’s conscience,” according to the report.
Michigan already employs a conscientious objection clause for abortion services. This new bill, however, would allow physicians to refuse to write prescriptions for birth control, other reproductive services and a range of other services.
The Senate passed the bill with a 26-12 vote and will now move to the House for consideration.
