Crestwood Medical Center filed a CON request Oct. 5, 2011, to continue offering elective angioplasties as it had done for the past five years under a national study. While Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital opposed the proposal, Judge Algert S. Agricola Jr. ruled that the angioplasty program complies with the CON review standards and aligns with the cardiac services section of the state health plan.
Judge Agricola made his recommendation after hearing witnesses at a January 2012 hearing and reviewing more than 70 exhibits. He also denied Huntsville Hospital’s request to send the issue back to the Statewide Health Coordinating Council for additional evaluation.
