Hurley Medical Center Settles Family and Medical Leave Act Lawsuit

Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Mich., has agreed to a $375,000 settlement in a lawsuit accusing the hospital of violating the Family and Medical Leave Act, according to an Mlive-Flint Journal report.

The suit was filed in 2012 by an employee with lupus who took time off under the Act, which allows for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for employees with medical conditions or family obligations, according to the report. The employee was soon fired for abusing the Act's statures, the suit claims.

Hurley has not admitted liability in the settlement, according to the report.
