In addition to a tax on hospital beds, the governor and lawmakers have been floating several proposals to fill a $608 million budget gap, including a 5 percent Medicaid rate cut, a 1.9 percent cut in Medicaid rates for some physicians and a 1.6 percent tax on managed care insurance premium revenues.
Gov. Perdue said that if the legislature fails to fill the budget gap, he would have to propose a 16.5 percent across-the-board cut in Medicaid rates for all health providers.
