Roosevelt Hairston Jr., the former general counsel and executive vice president of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, has been sentenced to four years in prison after he embezzled $1.7 million from the organization, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report.
In July, Mr. Hairston pleaded guilty to charges of mail fraud, money laundering and filing a false tax return. Federal charges say that beginning in 1999, he created false invoices for front companies to embezzle money from the hospital and use it to fund a “lavish lifestyle” and purchase real estate, luxury cars and a yacht.
Mr. Hairson has agreed to pay CHOP $1.7 million in restitution and up to $1 million to the government for tax obligations.
