Felony charges dismissed against former UPMC employee who 'pranked' hospital with fire alarm

A judge has dismissed felony charges against Matthew Troy Vargason, 26, after Mr. Vargason completed a diversion program related to tampering with communications systems and activating fire alarms at UPMC Williamsport (Pa.), pennlive.com reported April 28.

Mr. Vargason was employed by UPMC Williamsport as a patient transporter, according to his LinkedIn. He described disabling the call bell system, damaging an elevator and pulling the fire alarm three times as "pranks."

A year ago, he pleaded guilty to consolidated counts of recklessly endangering another person, false alarm and criminal mischief. He was not sentenced due to admission to the diversion program.

No one was harmed as a result of his actions.
