The two companies reimbursed physicians and billed patients for out-of-network services using Ingenix, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group. The lawsuit claims that Ingenix data was manipulated to under-reimburse providers on out-of-network services and place more financial responsibilities on patients, according to the news release.
Through these lawsuits, the AMA and the state medical associations hope to modify billing and payment procedures and help physicians who were most affected by alleged flaws in the Ingenix system.
