11 Kentucky Hospitals File Complaints Alleging HIX Exclusion

Eleven hospitals in Kentucky have filed complaints with the Kentucky Department of Insurance alleging unfair exclusion from the plans offered on the state's new insurance marketplace.

Most of the complaints are about narrow network plans sold by Anthem, according to a report in the Courier-Journal. So far, the state's insurance department has ruled in favor of three of these complaints, compelling Anthem to include the following providers in plans sold on Kynect: UK Healthcare in Lexington, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland and Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.

The Kentucky hospitals are not the first to complain of being left off insurance plans offered on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act-created exchanges. In October, Seattle Children's Hospital filed a lawsuit against the insurance exchange in Washington, alleging similar exclusion from the offered plans.
