GWU Hospital Triumphant in False Claims Suit

George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., has prevailed in an 18-year-old lawsuit accusing the hospital of False Claims Act violations.

In 1995, four nurse anesthetists sued GWU Hospital, alleging the hospital had submitted claims to Medicare for anesthesia procedures performed by a licensed anesthesiologist when the procedures had been performed in part by residents or nurses, according to a Washington Bureau report.

A federal judge ruled in GWU Hospital's favor Monday, deciding the whistle-blowers had not sufficiently linked specific payments to the alleged false Medicare claims, according to Law360.
