6 latest hospital, health system layoffs

The following layoffs or workforce reductions were reported by Becker’s Hospital Review in the last three weeks. They are listed below by the number of employees and/or positions affected.

1. Monroe, La.-based St. Francis Medical Center offered about 300 employees voluntary layoff packages.

2. Washington Hospital in Fremont, Calif., eliminated 244 positions through various means. Thirty-one employees were laid off, 196 positions were cut through attrition and 17 employees accepted a severance package and retired voluntarily.

3. Mary Washington Healthcare, a two-hospital system based in Fredericksburg, Va., eliminated 66 jobs — including four vice president positions — and reduced the hours of 46 other employees.

4. About 40 employees will be affected when East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare ends inpatient services at ETMC Gilmer (Texas) by the end of the year.

5. Honolulu-based Hawaii Health Systems announced plans to lay off 35 workers, about 1 percent of its workforce, by mid-December.

6. Cabinet Peaks Medical Center in Libby, Mont., laid off eight employees from five departments.
