Health systems’ top 10 AI priorities for the next 2 years

Hospitals and health systems are already using artificial intelligence to varying degrees, but they have big plans to adopt the technology in the near future, a new report from the Center for Connected Medicine at Pittsburgh-based UPMC and KLAS Research found.

Here are the AI uses healthcare organizations plan to invest in over the next two years, according to the survey of 49 providers and payers published June 8 (ranked by number of organizations):

1. Operational optimization: 30

2. Health/disease management and prediction: 29

3. Population health management: 25

4. Value-based care: 24

5. Patient/member engagement: 20

6. Clinical research: 17

7. Imaging: 16

8. Unsure: 6

9. No plans to invest in AI: 4

10. Other: 1*
