Uptick in patient-led attacks prompts NH Hospital CEO to launch investigation

Concord-based New Hampshire Hospital's new CEO will investigate patient-led attacks on healthcare workers at state psychiatric facilities, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Lori Shibinette will helm the investigation, specifically focusing on facilities such as NHH and the Sununu Youth Services Center in Manchester.

"The plan is to look at the last five years of data and determine if there is an actual increase in the number and severity of incidents, and to see if there are any patterns associated with them," she told the state's executive council Wednesday, according to the report.

"There are a variety of things we can do once we have our baseline of what these assaults were, where they happened, how they happened and things like that. There is a lot of attention on this, as there should be, because we don't want any of our staff to be harmed," she added.

The investigation's launch comes as the executive council and Republican New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu learned of at least 11 reported incidents of patient-led attacks on healthcare workers, the report states.

Ms. Shibinette expects an initial review to be completed in the next month or two. An "overall assessment and comprehensive training plan" is expected to follow the initial review, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader.
