Presence Saint Joseph nurses grant negotiators ability to call strike

Nurses at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Ill., voted 529-89 Wednesday to allow the negotiating committee to call a strike if they feel the need to do so, according to a Herald-News report.

The vote does not necessarily mean a strike will take place. The union would still have to formally set a strike date and notify the hospital.

In the meantime, the nurses, represented by the Illinois Nurses Association, are scheduled to participate in negotiating sessions with the hospital Thursday and Friday, according to the report.

Key sticking points in the negotiations include wages and working duties, the report states.
