Union nurses at Steward Health Care System's Morton Hospital in Taunton, Mass., have the option of a strike, reports Boston Business Journal.
The nurses voted Wednesday night to authorize a potential strike, a vote that allows the bargaining committee to call a strike after the existing three-year union contract expires at the end of 2016, according to the article. The vote, however, doesn't necessarily mean the nurses will strike.
Wednesday night's vote took place prior to starting contract negotiations. The pre-emptive move was an effort to avoid what nurses call stalling tactics by hospital management in other Steward locations, according to the report.
The Boston Business Journal reached out to Steward officials, but they were not immediately available for comment.
