Hahnemann University Hospital nurses picket over staffing levels

Roughly 50 nurses at Philadelphia-based Hahnemann University Hospital picketed Friday, calling for improved staffing levels at area hospitals, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report.

The nurses, represented by the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses & Allied Professionals, want a patient-to-nurse ratio of 3 to 1.

During the rally, the nurses revealed a petition that has been signed by thousands of nurses at local medical centers demanding improved staffing, according to the article. A number of elected officials also attended the rally.

In response to the demonstration, Hahnemann University Hospital officials released the following statement to the Philadelphia Business Journal"Hahnemann University Hospital has been negotiating for several months with the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals and remains committed to reaching a collective bargaining agreement. As we move through this process our focus remains, as it always has been, to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to those we serve."
