NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital workers protest over wages

Workers at Bronxville, N.Y.-based NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital held a candlelight vigil Friday, lobbying for better wages, according to a Bronxville Daily Voice report.

The workers, represented by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, protested across the street from the hospital.

They claim management has been reluctant to increase wages annually. The Bronxville Daily Voice states the hospital has reportedly offered a 1 percent wage increase on the current year and a 3.5 percent increase over a four-year contract.

The hospital released a statement on the matter.

"We have been negotiating in good faith with Local 1199 and we will continue to work with the union to reach a fair contract for our employees," hospital spokesman Geoff Thompson said. "The hospital is operating normally and we remain committed to providing the highest quality, safest and most compassionate care and service to our patients."
