More than 100 St. John’s workers, represented by Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West, participated in the picket.
The picket was prompted by negotiations being held across San Francisco-based Dignity Health system, according to the report. Union members said they are frustrated by proposed contract changes that would cut pension contributions, freeze wages and offer a 1 percent bonus instead of raises, the report states.
Dignity Health officials said in a statement provided to the Ventura County Star that the system’s focus is serving patients and that care was not compromised by the picket.
“We apologize to our patients, physicians and staff for any inconvenience this informational picket may cause,” said Dignity Health spokeswoman Megan Maloney. “We believe the best place to resolve differences and achieve an agreement is at the bargaining table.”
A similar action took place Monday at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, Calif., also operated by Dignity Health, according to the report.
