Kindred Hospital San Gabriel nurses vote to unionize

Registered nurses at West Covina, Calif.-based Kindred Hospital San Gabriel Valley voted to become members of the California Nurses Association, according to a union news release.

The vote was 37-4 in favor of unionization, the union said. CNA will represent 100 RNs at Kindred Hospital San Gabriel Valley in addition to the RNs it represents at other Kindred facilities, including Kindred Hospital Baldwin Park (Calif.) and Kindred Hospital Westminster (Calif.).

"We are thrilled to join our union coworkers at Kindred Westminster and Baldwin Park," Kindred San Gabriel RN Nieva Castigador added in the release. "In the coming weeks we will be electing our bargaining team and are looking forward to bargaining our first contract to improve working conditions for our patients and ourselves."

Kindred Hospital San Gabriel Valley did not immediately return a call from Becker's Hospital Review seeking comment.
