Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente is urging residents to apply for positions at Maui County’s three public hospitals in Hawaii sooner rather than later, reports The Maui News.

Kaiser is slated to take over Hawaii Health Systems Corp.’s Maui Region, which includes Wailuku-based Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula (Hawaii) Hospital and Lanai Community Hospital in Lanai City, as of July 1. While the transition is still months away, Kaiser is encouraging residents to apply as soon as possible, according to the report.

“We don’t want the transition to be the reason people would hold back on applying,” Jean Melnikoff, vice president of human resources for Kaiser, told The Maui News. “If you have friends or neighbors or family interested and want to come work but they’re waiting, tell them do not wait.

“In fact, there’s an advantage to them not waiting, because as they become our employees, we’re giving them credit for service time they had” with the Maui Region before the takeover, she added.

She told the publication more than 93 percent of the 1,500 employees working at Maui County’s three hospitals have accepted jobs with Kaiser. However, she said various jobs remain open, including registered nurses, nurses’ aides, lab and diagnostic imaging, among others, according to the report.
