Hospitals and unions: 5 recent conflicts

Becker's Hospital Review reported on the following events related to hospital-union relationships — including contracts and elections — since Jan. 11.

1. University of California registered nurses hold pickets statewide as contract negotiations continue
University of California registered nurses picketed at UC medical centers statewide to draw attention to patient care and workplace safety concerns amid contract negotiations, according to the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United.

2.  Sodexo workers at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital set strike date
Workers at Fountain Valley (Calif.) Regional Hospital and Medical Center voted to strike Feb. 1 if a contract dispute isn't resolved, according to the OC Weekly.  

3. UPMC McKeesport nurses seek to decertify SEIU: 5 things to know
Nurses at UPMC McKeesport (Pa.) will vote later this month on whether to decertify the union that represents them, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report.    

4. No resolution to Baystate Franklin, union dispute after 1 year: 7 updates
A dispute between Greenfield, Mass.-based Baystate Franklin Medical Center and nurses represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association is ongoing more than a year into negotiations.

5. Berkshire Medical Center nurses authorize potential one-day strike
Registered nurses at Pittsfield, Mass.-based Berkshire Medical Center are moving closer to a potential strike.
