The members were protesting contract proposals by Dominican’s parent company, San Francisco-based Dignity Health.

SEIU-UHW, which represents more than 15,000 Dignity Health employees, including nearly 600 at Dominican Hospital, is currently in talks with Dignity Health over pay and benefits for 2017, according to the report.

Union spokesman Sean Wherley told the Santa Cruz Sentinel that Dignity Health proposed freezing workers’ wages and cutting benefits.

Dominican provided a statement to the publication from Dignity Health that said: “We apologize to our patients, physicians and staff for any inconvenience this informational picket may cause. We believe the best place to resolve differences and achieve an agreement is at the bargaining table. The healthcare workers participating in the informational picket are valued and respected members of our healthcare team. We will continue to negotiate in good faith in the hopes of reaching a fair and equitable agreement with our union.”
