Want to apply for a hospital job via video? Here’s your chance

Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., is offering an optional process for job seekers to apply via video, according to a KSHB report.

The option, called Introduce Yourself, is a video job application using an app powered by HireVue.

Applicants download the app on their mobile phone or tablet then answer a series of questions one at a time, according to the report. Applicants have 30 seconds to read each question before the recording starts, KSHB notes, and they only get one shot to record before the system moves to the next question. Three minutes are given to answer each question.

Once the applicant submits the video, the hospital determines the best position for the applicant, and the applicant will officially apply and complete the paperwork for that position, according to the report.

Molly Weaver, director of employment at Children’s Mercy, spoke positively of the option. She said she realized some applicants, Millennials in particular, did not want to complete lengthy paperwork; and some people were applying for positions they were not qualified for, according to the report.

“So every morning, recruiters here look at the videos and we respond within a day or two,” Ms Weaver told KSHB.

“We are not looking for the production quality; we’re trying to get to know that person as they answer the questions and find out if they are a fit for Children’s Mercy and what position would be the best fit for that individual,” she added.

In the last year, nearly 100 video applicants have been hired at Children’s Mercy.
