UMass Memorial nurses, hospital reach agreement: 5 things to know

Nurses at Worcester, Mass.-based UMass Memorial Medical Center have agreed to a one-year contract with the hospital, according to a Telegram & Gazette report.

Here are five things to know about the new contract.

1. The new contract covers 2,214 registered nurses represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association.

2. The new contract includes staffing improvements, wage increases and a "respectful relationship" clause, according to the union.

3.  Under the new contract, all nurses will receive a 1 percent pay increase. Nurses at the UMass Memorial's University campus will receive a 1.5 percent pay increase in June 2016 to bring their pay in line with nurses at the Memorial and Hahnemann campuses, according to the report.

4. UMass Memorial has also agreed to fill all vacant nursing positions within 90 days and add nurses to the STAT team on multiple campuses. According to the union, the STAT team consists of experienced nurses who support nurses on the various floors.

5. The new contract replaces three-year contracts that were scheduled to expire this month.
