The ratification followed a vote Wednesday by hospital nurses. Nurses voted to ratify the agreement with 98.5 percent in favor.
Here are three things to know about the new contract:
1. The contract calls for a 7.5 percent salary increase over five years, as well as no-cost healthcare benefits for individual nurses, according to The Salinas Californian.
2. The contract will retain the clinical role of the charge nurse.
3. The new contract will run through March 2019.
The agreement between the union and the hospital comes after 15 months of bargaining sessions, mediation and fact finding. The nurses were set to strike Wednesday. However, after the California Nurses Association and hospital reached a tentative agreement, nurses called off the strike and instead used that day to vote on the contract.
