Post-Christmas strike averted at Tenet's Saint Vincent Hospital

Members of Teamsters Union Local 170 have reached a tentative deal with Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Mass., averting a planned Dec. 26 strike.

The union represents about 180 techs and therapists at the hospital, according to the Worcester Business Journal. Saint Vincent Hospital is part of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare.

Union members reached the tentative deal Dec. 16 after being in negotiations for about eight months, and after two full days of negotiations, with a federal mediator involved, according to a Teamsters statement shared with Becker's. No details about the contract were disclosed.

"We are spending this week putting together the information to be shared with the membership, scheduling time to discuss, and have a tentative plan to bring this to a vote the week after New Year's," the union said.

Saint Vincent shared the following statement with Becker's: "We are pleased to have reached a tentative contract agreement with the Teamsters, the labor union that represents our techs and therapists at Saint Vincent Hospital. In addition, the Teamsters have withdrawn their intent to strike notice. The new contract will enable Saint Vincent Hospital to continue to recruit and retain techs and therapists, who are valued members of our care team. As always, we remain focused on providing safe, quality care to our patients."
