The union represents about 180 techs and therapists at the hospital, according to the Telegram & Gazette. Saint Vincent Hospital is part of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare.
Union members issued a 10-day strike notice Dec. 12 after months of negotiations, according to a Teamsters statement shared with Becker’s. Saint Vincent issued a statement saying that during negotiations, the hospital has “been committed to bargaining in good faith to reach an agreement that will provide our employees with competitive compensation. We have made several significant concessions and told the union we were prepared to reach a fair and equitable agreement before the holidays.”
The union contends that hospital management has not adequately addressed economic issues and has refused to offer the pay increases its members deserve. Teamsters also contends that the hospital has proposed “very aggressive management rights language” that would open the door to outsourcing.
A strike could still be averted if an agreement is reached. Both sides have agreed to bargaining sessions Dec. 15 and Dec. 16.
