Nurses at Turlock, Calif.-based Emanuel Medical Center voted in favor of unionization last week.

With the vote, approximately 400 EMC nurses will join California Nurses Association/National Nurses United. Nurses at the medical center seek to “strengthen patient care delivery, as well as to improve competitive pay and other economic standards,” the union said.

Nurses will now determine representatives for their first contract negotiations with the medical center. EMC, part of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, said in an emailed statement to Becker’s Hospital Review it “respects this decision made by our registered nurses, and will bargain in good faith with the CNA to reach a collective bargaining agreement.”
