Resident physicians and fellows at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City have reached the first tentative labor agreement with the health system.

The agreement, reached March 17, covers 1,200 house staff represented by the Committee of Interns and Residents, a local of the Service Employees International Union.

The proposed contract includes an 18% pay bump, a $2,500 annual child-care allowance and a $3,000 housing stipend, according to the union.

CIR/SEIU said the deal also includes “improved healthcare benefits,” as well as “critical due process protections,” which, along with other provisions, “will directly impact both [physicians’] well-being and ability to provide high-quality patient care for the Bronx.”

Resident physicians voted to re-establish a union at Montefiore in 2023, and both sides have been in negotiations for roughly two years. The tentative deal is pending ratification by union members.

Becker’s reached out to Montefiore and will update this story if a comment is received.
