The two organizations had been discussing the prospect of a potential affiliation since July. Officials said they hope to obtain the necessary regulatory approvals by mid-2017.

Under the affiliation agreement, NYU Langone will support Winthrop as it converts its outpatient facilities to the Epic EHR system and develops systemwide IT infrastructure.

Winthrop will remain under the direction of the current board of directors and administration. Members from each board will also retain seats on the board of directors for the other facility. Winthrop faculty will also retain their appointments at Stony Brook (N.Y.) University’s School of Medicine.
