UPMC’s expansion into NY moves forward

Pittsburgh-based UPMC signed an affiliation agreement with WCA Hospital in Jamestown, N.Y. in late 2015, and the organizations have moved forward with their partnership by filing plans with the New York State Department of Health, according to a Buffalo Business First report.

The affiliation marks UPMC’s first expansion into New York. Under the deal, 317-bed WCA Hospital will be renamed UPMC Chautauqua at WCA. The plans filed with the state showed no changes to the number of beds at the hospital, according to the report.

It will likely be several months before the deal is finalized, as the ownership change requires a full review by the DOH’s Public Health and Health Planning Council.
