Farmington, Conn.-based UConn Health has submitted a $13 million bid to take over Waterbury (Conn.) Hospital, part of Los Angeles-based Prospect Medical Holdings, according to a Nov. 11 news release.
Prospect Medical owned three Connecticut hospitals, including Waterbury, and has been working to offload facilities across its portfolio since it sought Chapter 11 protection in January.
The bid comes after months of collaboration among UConn Health, community leaders and state officials to ensure local job protection and care continuity amid Prospect’s bankruptcy proceedings.
In late October, Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare secured the bid for Prospect Medical’s Manchester Memorial Hospital and Rockville General Hospital in Vernon, Conn., for $86.1 million after no other bidders submitted proposals before the Oct. 17 deadline.
In mid-September, the CT Mirror reported that UConn Health was in talks to purchase Waterbury Hospital, Bristol (Conn.) Hospital and Putnam, Conn.-based Day Kimball Hospital for nearly $400 million.
“The partnership reflects UConn Health’s broader strategy to strengthen healthcare delivery and expand access across Connecticut by building a sustainable, high-value public health system,” the release said. “UConn Health continues to explore additional collaborations with community hospitals, including Bristol Health and Day Kimball Health, as part of its long-term plan to meet the state’s growing demand for patient-centered care.”
