Here are three things to know about the affiliation.
1. Officials from both organizations said they have identified several potential areas for collaboration, including telehealth initiatives and various specialty medical services like neurology, neurosurgery and oncology, among others.
2. The institutions will also work together to enable Infirmary Health providers to collaborate with community clinicians and share best practices. The organizations will also work to expand the number of available medical residency positions to encourage more physicians to practice in Alabama.
3. The affiliation marks UAB Health System’s second collaboration in less than one month. The health system entered into a management agreement with J. Paul Jones Hospital in Camden, Ala., Feb. 14.
