The two regional healthcare providers began talks about six months ago, according to the report. Both sides plan to study the merger further, with a final agreement possibly coming in 2010, according to officials from WellSpan.
A possible merger between WellSpan and PinnacleHealth would bring more resources and physicians to patients in the area, according to the report. Under the terms of the agreement, PinnacleHealth Hospitals and WellSpan’s York Hospital and Gettysburg Hospital would retain their names.
The Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission would have to review any final agreement before a merger would be approved.
