Little River began managing the hospital seven months ago when the hospital’s former management company, Tyler-based East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare System, pulled out, according to the report.
Little River officials said operating the facility has been an “uphill climb” because of the health system’s dispute with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Officials claim the insurer owes them roughly $32 million in accounts receivable for services more than seven months old, according to the report.
Hospital leaders met with members of the community, as well as state and federal representatives, during a special meeting June 23. It is unclear whether officials made any decisions on the issue.
