Novant Health received approval to move forward with a proposed hospital acquisition in North Carolina, and Baptist Health closed the acquisition of its 13th hospital. Here are two hospital M&A moves Becker’s reported during the week of June 15:
1. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health’s proposed acquisition of Mount Airy-based Northern Regional Hospital was approved by the Surry County (N.C.) Board of Commissioners. Under the agreement, Novant will acquire the 133-bed facility and its related facilities.
The deal is subject to regulatory approval, including approval from the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
2. Little Rock, Ark.-based Baptist Health acquired South Arkansas Regional Hospital in El Dorado, expanding its footprint to 13 hospitals. The health system assumed operations of the 151-bed hospital June 14 and formally welcomed the facility during a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 15. The hospital has been renamed Baptist Health Medical Center-El Dorado.
The acquisition comes as Baptist Health continues its expansion across Arkansas. In April, the health system reached a definitive agreement to acquire Magnolia (Ark.) Regional Medical Center. The transaction is expected to close July 12.
