Two New Jersey health systems scrapped merger plans, and UW Health is eyeing a possible hospital acquisition.

Here are two hospital M&A moves that Becker’s reported during the week of Oct. 6:

1. Madison, Wis.-based UW Health and Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic Region of Sanford Health are in talks concerning Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam (Wis.) and its associated clinics and healthcare facilities joining UW Health.

The organizations told Becker’s Oct. 6 that the conversations are still in their early stages. Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam is a 60-bed acute care hospital. It joined Marshfield Clinic Health System in 2019.

2. Morristown, N.J.-based Atlantic Health System and New Brunswick, N.J.-based Saint Peter’s Healthcare System called off a planned partnership on Oct. 6.

The organizations signed a definitive agreement in June that would have brought Saint Peter’s into Atlantic Health’s care network as its single corporate member. Saint Peter’s was set to implement Epic post-transaction and integrate quality initiatives with Atlantic Health’s physician group. The systems decided to halt their plans after lengthy discussions and an analysis of the changing national healthcare landscape.
